The Deleted PEGI Listing Just Confirmed GTA 6’s Wildest Mechanic: Cocaine Straight From Your Inventory

For three years, GTA 6’s ratings story has been a slow drip of bureaucratic receipts, and today the drip turned into a firehose. A PEGI 18 listing for Grand Theft Auto VI appeared on the Pan European Game Information board’s website — and was then quickly deleted, but not before fans saved the full text and shared it everywhere. Eurogamer has the complete rundown, and IGN independently corroborated the listing’s language. Buried in the dry prose is the single most specific gameplay detail any ratings board has ever let slip about this game: players will be able to carry cocaine in their inventory and snort it directly from their hand, at any time.

Yes — “at any time.” Not in a cutscene. Not in a scripted mission. From the inventory, on demand, out in the world. If you’ve been following our ratings coverage this week — the ESRB’s M rating, then Australia and New Zealand naming sex scenes outright — you know the pattern: each new listing has quietly upgraded one descriptor from vague to shockingly specific. The PEGI text is the biggest jump yet.

What the Rating Actually Says

Here’s the line doing all the work, quoted verbatim from the now-deleted listing: “Drug use is frequent and prominent with the player being able to partake in drug use with others and to use illegal drugs directly from their inventory. Most notably, cocaine can be carried around by the player and snorted directly from their hand at any time.” Two details deserve to be pulled out of that sentence. First, the phrase “partake in drug use with others” — social drug use, with NPCs, as an activity. Second, “directly from their inventory” — this isn’t a prop in a cutscene, it’s an inventory item with a use function, the same as a weapon or a medkit.

The rest of the listing covers the expected Greatest Hits of a GTA rating: murder, robberies, gun crime, and “lots of swears,” as Eurogamer elegantly puts it. The violence descriptor earned its own escalation — players can “harm all other characters inhabiting the environment” with a “high degree of realism,” and some weapons will “cause greater damage such as detailed decapitation and dismemberment.” And the PEGI text corroborates the sex-scenes language that the Australian and New Zealand boards already put in writing: “strong sexual themes, including nudity, scenes of intercourse and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes,” plus private dances in nightclubs where “the game allows the player to move their hands onto the dancers’ breasts and buttocks.”

Why “From Your Inventory” Is the Actual Headline

GTA games have always dealt drugs. The series’ economy has run on product since the ’90s — but the protagonists were couriers and kingpins, not users. The line has historically been strict: you move the merchandise; you don’t consume it. GTA 5 and GTA Online crossed it only slightly, with optional bongs that could normally only be found in player-owned apartments, not carried about in the wider world — a party trick tucked behind a load screen, not a mechanic.

GTA 6 turning hard drug use into a portable, anytime inventory action is a different category of design decision. It means someone at Rockstar built an animation, a use case, and a place in the inventory UI for snorting cocaine from your palm — and the ratings board saw it enough times to call it “frequent and prominent.” Those are not words boards use for a one-off easter egg. This is a system, in the same sense that eating to restore health was a system in GTA: San Andreas.

And it slots perfectly into the world Rockstar has been building. This is, after all, a game where the writers’ own stated pitch is that the setting “has to be more over the top, more insane, more in your face” than the real world — the quote Rockstar narrative SVP Rupert Humphries gave in this week’s LOVE Magazine feature on Jason and Lucia. A Florida stand-in without parties, powders, and consequences would be a theme-park version of the state. The mechanic isn’t shock value — it’s world-building, weaponized.

The Ratings Paper Trail, So Far

Quick recap of the week that was, because the PEGI listing is the third domino in six days. First came the ESRB’s M rating with its familiar seven descriptors. Then Australia and New Zealand’s listings named “sex scenes” outright — wording GTA 5 never carried. Now PEGI’s (briefly) published text goes further than all of them, itemizing cocaine use from inventory, sexual fetish scenes, and detailed dismemberment. Each board is describing the same game with increasing bluntness, and the picture they’re collectively painting is of the most adult GTA ever made — by a comfortable margin.

One housekeeping note: the listing’s deletion means the PEGI page itself is no longer public. The text survives because fans archived it before it went down — standard practice in this community — and both Eurogamer and IGN published the key language after the fact. Treat the deletion as procedural noise, not a retraction: ratings boards routinely publish, adjust, and republish listings in the run-up to launch, and the PEGI 18 rating itself was never in question.

What This Means for GTA 6

One: the simulation boundary just moved. GTA 6 is willing to simulate self-destructive behavior as an interactive verb, not just a plot point. That’s a line the series has never crossed, and it will — legitimately — generate think-pieces. Rockstar clearly built the game expecting that conversation.

Two: the “use” in “Use of Drugs and Alcohol” just got literal. The ESRB’s descriptor was already on the box; PEGI’s text tells us what it costs in gameplay terms. Expect consequences — impairment effects, mission failures, relationship beats with Lucia or Jason — because a Rockstar game never adds a verb without a downside.

Three: every board on Earth is done. PEGI 18 in Europe, M in America, R18+ and R18 down under, 21 badges in the Gulf — the paperwork runway is clear, discs are being pressed, and the only thing left between us and Leonida is 48 days. Pre-order GTA 6 for PS5 on Amazon or lock in the Xbox Series X|S version here — November 19, 2026, on both.

A ratings board accidentally told us more about GTA 6 in one deleted paragraph than three years of trailers. The inventory line is the detail to remember — because whatever the verb turns out to do, someone at Rockstar spent months building it. See you November 19.
