GTA 6 Ultimate Edition for Effectively $85 — the Newegg Gift-Card Trick Is Back, Today Only (October 27)
Nobody is discounting GTA 6 directly — but today, the best workaround of the entire pre-order season just went live. As IGN’s commerce team reports (and Mashable corroborates), Newegg is selling the $100 PlayStation Store digital gift card for $85 — today only, October 27 — when you enter promo code GTWF2793 at checkout. That is $100 of PlayStation credit for $85, and $100 is exactly the price of the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition, the version Take-Two says most people are pre-ordering.
The essentials: buy the $100 PSN card at Newegg for $85 with code GTWF2793 (today only), redeem the emailed code on the PlayStation Store, and put the credit toward the $99.99 Ultimate Edition — net cost $85, with a penny of change left over. Same trick on the Standard Edition works out to roughly $68. This matches the best open-to-everyone price we have seen all year, and IGN calls it almost certainly the biggest discount we will see on gift cards ahead of the November 19 launch. Here is how to run the play, and why today specifically matters.
What Happened: The $15 Loophole, Step by Step
The mechanics take about ten minutes end to end. First, head to Newegg and find the $100 PlayStation Store Digital Gift Card. Add it to your cart and enter promo code GTWF2793 — the price drops from $100 to $85, a flat $15 saving. IGN’s Chris Reed, who has been tracking these deals all season, tested it himself: his redemption code arrived by email six minutes after ordering, with Newegg promising delivery within an hour.
Second, redeem the code on the PlayStation Store: sign in, click your avatar in the top-right corner, hit “Redeem Code,” and paste. Your wallet gains $100. Third, pre-order Grand Theft Auto 6 on the store — the Ultimate Edition at $99.99 or the Standard at $79.99 — and pay from the wallet balance. Done: the most-preordered edition of the biggest game of the year for $85 out of pocket, and you keep whatever change lands back in your wallet for PS Plus or a future sale.

Why This Round Matters: A Deal Season Rewind
If this feels familiar, it should — but check the price. Over the summer, Newegg ran the same shape of promo at $88 with a different code, which we covered when it knocked $12 off a GTA 6 pre-order. A few weeks ago, the deepest cut of all appeared at Costco — effectively $80 for the Ultimate Edition — but that one required a Costco membership to access. Today’s $85 round needs no membership, no special account, nothing but the promo code. It matches the best no-membership price documented all season.
IGN’s deal desk notes these Newegg gift-card promos pop up roughly every week or two and always last a single day — so if you miss this one, another round may well appear before November 19. But there is no guarantee the price holds at $85; past open rounds have sat at $85 and $90. If you already know you want the Ultimate Edition, the math says take the bird in hand. And remember the shape of the market: Rockstar is not discounting the game itself anywhere, the release is digital-only (even the boxed copy is just a code in a case), and preloads open November 12 — so credit bought today is credit ready to spend the moment your pre-order needs it.
A note for Xbox players: today’s round is PlayStation-specific. Xbox card promos do exist — IGN’s deal coverage has tracked the $100 Xbox card at $90 in recent rounds — but nothing Xbox-side is matching $85 today. If you are on Series X|S and want the Ultimate Edition at a discount, the play is patience and a fast trigger finger: these one-day codes surface without warning, and the Xbox rounds have historically landed a few dollars above the PlayStation equivalents. We will flag the next one when it appears.
It is also worth understanding why every GTA 6 discount this season has been indirect. The game is a fixed digital price point controlled by Rockstar — no retailer can shave $5 off a PlayStation Store SKU without the publisher’s blessing, and none has. So the deal economy has routed around it: discounted store credit (today’s play), discounted hardware bundles, discounted accessories. That is why the console-side offers keep stacking up while the game’s own price has not moved a dollar since pre-orders opened — and why a flat $15 off is genuinely as good as it gets for the game itself.
What This Means for GTA 6
1. The Ultimate Edition just became even more of a default. Rockstar describes the $99.99 tier as “an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story” — and Take-Two’s boss has said more people are pre-ordering the $100 version than any other. At an effective $85, the gap to the Standard Edition shrinks to $17 for a pile of exclusive content. Our full pre-order guide breaks down exactly what each tier includes.
2. The gift-card math works on the Standard Edition too. $85 for $100 of credit means the $79.99 Standard Edition effectively costs about $67.99, with $20 of wallet left over. If you only want the base game, today is still the cheapest it has ever been outside a warehouse-club membership.
3. The deal season is heating up right on schedule. Three weeks from launch, everything is moving: Sony itself just ran its first real PS5 console deal, the limited DualSense controller got a discount, and we tracked that one too. Retail knows November 19 is a spending event, and the discounts will keep rotating — but game-credit discounts are the only way to cheapen the actual game.

4. Timing beats loyalty. Amazon is not matching this — no retailer is discounting GTA 6 directly, and per IGN none is expected to before launch. If you prefer keeping everything on Amazon with its pre-order price guarantee, you can still pre-order GTA 6 for PS5 there or grab the Xbox Series X|S version here — but if saving $15 matters more, the PlayStation Store credit route through today’s Newegg code is the best number on the board.
The Bottom Line
Today only, October 27: $100 of PlayStation Store credit for $85 at Newegg with code GTWF2793, redeemable in minutes, spendable on a $99.99 Ultimate Edition that nets out at $85 flat. It is the best open-to-everyone GTA 6 discount of the pre-order season, it disappears at midnight, and the next round — if it comes — may not be this cheap. Preload day is November 12. Launch day is November 19. The only thing between you and Vice City is $85 and 210 GB of hard-drive space.
