Overview

Leonida is the state — Rockstar’s fictional version of Florida. Everything in GTA 6 happens within its borders. From the neon of Vice City to the swamps of Grassrivers, from the rural interior of Ambrosia to the island chain of the Keys, Leonida is the biggest, most diverse map in GTA history.

Leonida is more than a setting — it’s a character. The state shapes every story, every mission, every moment. Its corruption is institutional. Its beauty is deceptive. And its grip on anyone who lives there is absolute. As the tagline says: ‘Vice City, USA. The darkest side of the sunniest place in America.’

In the Game

Leonida contains at least 5 counties: Vice-Dale County (Miami-Dade), Leonard County (Broward), Ambrosia County (Hendry), Kelly County (Collier/Lee), and Mariana County (Southwest). Each has its own cities, towns, police departments, and criminal ecosystems.

The map is approximately 2x the size of GTA V’s map, with diverse biomes including urban, beach, wetland, rural, forest, and island environments. Over 700 enterable shops and locations are rumored.

Evidence also suggests a second state — Gloriana (based on Georgia) — may appear in the game.

Then vs Now

The original Vice City (1986) was set entirely within one city. GTA 6’s Leonida is an entire state — the scale is unprecedented. This is the evolution from a city to a world, from a setting to a universe.

Real-World Inspiration

Based on Florida — the third-most populous US state, with 22 million residents. Florida is known for its theme parks, beaches, agriculture, aerospace industry, and its unique brand of headline-generating chaos.

Florida is called The Sunshine State — Leonida’s tagline (‘the darkest side of the sunniest place’) is a direct play on this.

Florida’s reputation for bizarre news (‘Florida Man’) is a cultural phenomenon that GTA 6 will inevitably satirize.
