For nine dollars more than Best Buy’s refurb you get the newer 1TB slim design, and the $499 digital model is arguably the single cheapest sensible way into GTA 6 this year. Digital-only stings a little less when you remember GTA 6’s “physical” editions ship with a download code in the box anyway — there’s no disc either way — and Sony plans to stop pressing new PlayStation discs entirely from January 2028.

Series X owners lose nothing essential; Series S owners should temper expectations on resolution and density, which Rockstar still hasn’t detailed.
If you’re a PC player: this changes nothing. There’s no PC version at launch and no date announced — waiting remains a legitimate strategy if you’d rather not buy a console for one game. Nintendo fans: no, GTA 6 is not coming to Switch 2, and IGN isn’t even hedging on that one anymore.

The honest answer to “which console for GTA 6?” is: whichever one you can actually get, at the least insulting price, before mid-November.
