GTA 6 NEWS · GAME INFORMER REVEAL

Mini Golf, Kayaking, 170+ Animals and Rideshare Fast Travel: Every Big New GTA 6 Detail Just Landed

Locals, the floodgates are open. Game Informer’s 14-page Grand Theft Auto VI cover story finally went live today — after its app collapsed under the traffic — and it’s less a preview than a firehose. Over twenty major new details about Rockstar’s Leonida, straight from the developers building it. The six-region map and confirmed hurricane simulations are already old news from the first wave. Here’s everything else that matters.

What Happened: The Digital Issue Went Live

After Friday’s cover reveal put Jason and Lucia in a bullet-riddled convertible against the Vice City skyline, the full digital issue dropped today with a dozen new screenshots and a stack of developer interviews. IGN’s roundup counts the headlines: a ride-share fast-travel system, ten-plus confirmed side activities, over 170 animal species, a deeper crime toolkit, and a Jason-and-Lucia relationship that you — the player — get to steer. We’ve verified the big claims against Polygon’s independent coverage of the same issue; everything below is on the record from Rockstar.

Fast Travel Is a Rideshare — and You’ll Share the Ride

GTA has always let you hail a cab to skip across the map. GTA 6 formalizes it and, in true Florida fashion, makes it awkward: hop into a rideshare car to fast-travel around Leonida, and you’ll be sharing that ride with other passengers — complete with unique conversations. You can chat, you can sit in silence, or you can do what half of Miami does in an Uber: pull out your phone and doomscroll.

The doomscrolling target is Snapmatic, the series’ long-running Instagram parody, which is back as a full social feed you can lurk and browse. One thing you can’t do: post to it. Jason and Lucia are fugitives, and Rockstar’s logic is that two people on the run wouldn’t be slinging selfies. It’s a small restriction that says a lot about how the studio is thinking about the pair — hunted, careful, human.

The Side Activity List Is Absurd (in the Best Way)

Game Informer confirms ten side activities outright: base jumping, billiards, gyms, kayaking, mini golf, scuba diving, street and off-road racing, zoos, air boating, and jet skiing. Read that list again — it’s a Florida vacation simulator bolted onto a crime epic. Air boating is pure Everglades; the gyms finally bring back a San Andreas staple; and scuba diving matters more than it sounds, because the ocean is now full of things worth diving for (more on that below).

This is the Red Dead Redemption 2 playbook applied to a sun-bleached state instead of the frontier: fill the world with self-directed things to do, then make each one mechanically real instead of a menu option. Races, in particular, look poised to feed the car-culture loop GTA 6’s trailers have been flaunting since day one.

Leonida Is Crawling: Over 170 Animal Species

The wildlife number is the quiet headline of the whole issue: over 170 animal species, including more than 60 birds and more than 30 land mammals, plus a wide spread of fish and reptiles. Rockstar’s vice president of dynamic art, Michael Kane, told Game Informer the goal was to faithfully reflect Florida’s real ecosystem “across the different biomes in Leonida — urban and rural environs, aquatic life both inland and ocean, and the wetland habitats like the swamps and Everglades.” Polygon adds that the roster even distinguishes native species from invasive ones — yes, including the nine-banded armadillo, Florida’s most famous accidental immigrant.

The ocean gets its own treatment: multiple shark species, jellyfish, whales, turtles and rays, each with what Rockstar calls “distinct movement behavior,” encounterable while scuba diving. One screenshot shows Jason approaching wild deer with a rifle slung across his back — strong evidence that hunting, shallow in GTA 5 and deep in RDR2, returns properly here. Animal tracking is confirmed too, along with rare animal types Rockstar isn’t naming yet.

The tech underneath is RDR2’s fauna framework turned up to eleven: Polygon reports GTA 6’s animals can sport iridescence, bioluminescence, translucency and varied feather types, with fur that gets wet, mats with dirt and clumps together. And before you ask — yes, petting dogs was confirmed in August’s gameplay reveal. The bar for “which game has the best alligator” has been permanently raised.

Crime Gets a Toolkit: Casing, WAiNK and Fences

Robberies are the spine of the story, and Game Informer confirms they’ll be radically open-ended: go as a duo or go solo, go loud or go quiet — and your choices determine the intensity of the police response. When the heat lands, Jason and Lucia can shake the cops together or split up, leaving one to draw the bulk of it. But there’s a hard new failure state that old-school fans will feel in their bones: if either protagonist gets completely overwhelmed by police, it’s an immediate game over — Busted, capital B. No wasted-Busted-and-respawn safety net around the pair.

Carjacking scales too. High-end cars will require special tools to steal, and even a successful grab can come with trackers and security systems to defeat. Your phone’s WAiNK app tells you a vehicle’s resale value, its security setup, and what it would cost to make it legitimately yours — and when you’d rather not keep it, you take it to a fence. It’s a full stolen-goods economy instead of a respawning shipping container.

Jason, Lucia, and the Relationship You Steer

The most intriguing system in the issue might be the softest one. Jason and Lucia’s relationship — platonic partners or something more — is up to the player. You court them through actions: taking them on dates, actually answering when they call or text, small chivalries like opening doors and holding hands. And Rockstar confirms those choices, big and small, ripple beyond the romance into the shape of the story itself, explicitly encouraging multiple playthroughs to see the threads you didn’t pull.

The world around them is just as granular. NPCs are generated with variations in height, weight and skin type; they tan, they have moles, freckles and tattoos; even body proportions vary person to person. Clothing is “the biggest range of garments and accessories we’ve ever made,” per Kane — and NPCs dress for their circumstances, with weathered, dirtier fits in Leonida’s poorer corners. The detail thesis extends to the map itself: Rockstar North co-studio head Aaron Garbut says the team obsessed over “the rooftops, the alleys, the internals,” hitting “a critical mass” of interiors that makes buildings “feel more real inside and out.”

What This Means for GTA 6

Zoom out and a clear picture forms: Rockstar is trying to build the densest open world it has ever shipped — Garbut’s own words are “detail, scope, breadth, scale, interaction and density,” all dialed up at once, with the studio openly saying it has “never created anything close to this before.” The story is designed to march you across the six regions and show off the contrast between Leonida’s wealthy and poor corners, while systems like rideshare travel, activity spreads and the animal ecosystem reward leaving the mission path entirely.

There’s also a faction wrinkle worth filing away: Ambrosia, the rural refinery region, is territory of a biker gang — one that appears distinct from the Lost MC of GTA 4 and GTA 5 fame. How they fit into the crime economy of the story is one of the many things still under wraps.

Still unknown: which animals count as “rare,” how the activity list unlocks, and whether any of it touches GTA 6’s still-unconfirmed online mode. What’s certain is the date: November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you’re locking in your launch-week plans, you can pre-order GTA 6 for PS5 on Amazon or get the Xbox Series X|S version here — and our things to do while you wait list just got a lot more research behind it.

Fifty days out, the pitch is no longer “bigger GTA.” It’s the most simulated slice of Florida ever rendered — storms and all. Book the rideshare, Locals. We’re going to the zoo.
