IGN and Best Buy Are Giving Away a GTA 6 Launch Setup — 3 Weeks of Prizes Start October 26
Twenty-seven days before the biggest launch in entertainment history, everyone wants a piece of your countdown. The latest move comes from IGN and Best Buy, who have teamed up for three straight weeks of GTA 6-themed giveaways running every weekday from October 26 to November 13 — right up to launch day on November 19. First prize off the line is a brand-new PlayStation Portal, and from there the pool escalates through TVs, headsets, controllers, soundbars and monitors. Each week builds to a Friday mega-bundle — like the “Do Not Disturb” rig, anchored by a 65-inch LG C6 OLED and finished with a copy of the GTA 6 soundtrack on vinyl. IGN’s framing for the whole promotion: celebrating “the world’s biggest out of office day.” Considering workers have been booking November 19 off since the date was announced, that framing is barely an exaggeration.
What Happened: Daily Prizes, Friday Mega-Bundles
The mechanics are about as low-friction as sweepstakes get. Every weekday from October 26 through November 13, IGN adds a new giveaway to its IGN Rewards page, starting with that PlayStation Portal — the handheld that streams your PS5 games around the house. Monday through Thursday means one new item per day, and entering is a three-click affair: log in, open the sweepstakes, review the terms, and hit “Enter.” That’s the entire ask — no purchases, no raffle tickets, no social-media gymnastics.
Fridays are where it scales up. Each week caps with a themed grand-prize bundle, and IGN has already shown its hand with the first one: the Do Not Disturb bundle, a complete den rebuild that includes an LG 65-inch Class C6 OLED TV, an LG S60TR soundbar-and-subwoofer set, Govee Dreamview TV light strips and the GTA 6 soundtrack on vinyl — the same 34-track album Rockstar announced back in September. The smart part: entering any of that week’s single-item giveaways automatically enters you into the Friday bundle drawing, so the daily drops double as bundle tickets.
All told, IGN describes it as thousands of dollars worth of prizes across the three weeks. The fine print: giveaways are open to US residents aged 18 and up, excluding Hawaii, Alaska, Florida and New York, with a limit of one win per person across the whole window. (Yes, you read that state list right — more on Florida in a minute.) And if you’d rather not leave the handheld to luck, the PlayStation Portal is on Amazon — winning it is just considerably cheaper than buying it.

The Retail Play Behind It: Best Buy Goes All-In on Gaming
The giveaway isn’t appearing out of nowhere. As CNBC reported on October 20, Best Buy has just launched the beta of Best Buy Gamers, a gaming platform built in partnership with IGN that folds articles, reviews, live launch events and tech deals into the retailer’s ecosystem. Best Buy has been building it for more than a year, and McGinnis told CNBC the timing is “pretty perfect” — with tens of millions of gamers already shopping its stores every year, the next month of releases is effectively a second holiday season.
The centerpiece is physical: a new in-store gaming experience at Best Buy’s Torrance, California location, opening in November with activations from Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. The IGN giveaway calendar builds straight into it — the sweepstakes wrap on November 13, and on November 14 the Torrance event takes over, with IGN on-site filming content and running an in-person giveaway of its own. Quartz reports the surrounding program runs deeper still: the first 200,000 My Best Buy members who create a Gamers profile get a $5 bonus reward, separate sweepstakes run through the end of November — including one that gives a winner two minutes to fill a shopping cart and keep everything in it — nearly every store stays open late for the November 5 Zelda launch, and a League of Legends pop-up with Alienware and Team Liquid is planned for Brooklyn. GTA 6 and Zelda are the twin engines pulling the entire retail blitz.
The Florida Irony: The State That Inspired Leonida Can’t Enter
Here’s the detail GTA 6 fans spotted immediately. The giveaway is open to US residents — except in Hawaii, Alaska, New York and Florida. Florida. The state GTA 6 is a love letter to. Leonida, the game’s setting, is Florida with the serial numbers filed off; Vice City is Miami in neon. IGN’s terms don’t explain the carve-outs, but multi-state sweepstakes routinely exclude states with their own registration and bonding requirements, and Florida and New York are the textbook examples. The practical result is still wonderfully absurd: the state that inspired the entire game — and that Rockstar has spent months marketing inside of — can’t win the TV to play it on.
Because Rockstar really has been everywhere in Florida lately. There’s the nearly one-million-dollar “Welcome to Vice City” sign now fully lit atop Miami’s Kaseya Center. There’s Burger Shot, resurrected at a Florida burger chain through New Year’s. There’s even Pißwasser beer, brewed by a real Miami-area brewery. The state got the beer, the burgers and the skyline signage — it just can’t get the OLED.

What This Means for GTA 6
First: the launch economy has fully escaped gaming. Vacation requests spiked within hours of the release-date announcement, a UK gym chain published an official thumb workout for launch day, an NBA veteran has predicted a league-wide November performance dip — and now a national electronics retailer is treating November 19 like Black Friday. When your release date has its own labor statistics and its own retail promotions, “biggest entertainment launch ever” stops being marketing copy and starts being a planning assumption.
Second: hardware is the quiet winner. Every prize in the pool — OLED TV, soundbar, headset, controller, monitor — is a thing people buy to play games like this one. Best Buy is betting, loudly and publicly, that GTA 6 drags an entire setup refresh along with it. If you’d rather not leave your rig to luck, Sony’s first real console deal ends November 5, and the Do Not Disturb bundle is basically a shopping list of everything a launch-night den needs.
Third: the countdown machine now runs itself. Look at the calendar Rockstar’s partners have assembled without Rockstar lifting a finger: three weeks of giveaways starting October 26, the Torrance store event on November 14, launch on November 19. That’s a marketing schedule most publishers would pay nine figures for, and it’s being run by a media brand and a retailer because associating with GTA 6 is worth that much to them. For your own countdown, our things-to-do-while-waiting-for-GTA-6 list just got a new item at the top: check IGN Rewards every weekday morning.
So here’s the play. Starting Monday, October 26, the first giveaway — that PlayStation Portal — goes live on IGN Rewards. Enter the daily drops Monday through Thursday, and each entry rolls you into that Friday’s bundle drawing automatically. Check the terms first if you’re in Hawaii, Alaska, New York or Florida, because the exclusions are real. And if you’re in Southern California, the Torrance Best Buy on November 14 is the place to be. Everyone else: GTA 6 on PS5 or on Xbox Series X|S if you haven’t locked your pre-order yet — the giveaway might furnish the den, but you still have to bring the game.
Free to enter. Daily drops. Twenty-seven days.
