The Extended Look Answered Almost Everything — These 4 GTA 6 Questions Are Still Wide Open

Rockstar just gave us 26 minutes of official, in-game GTA 6 — and the internet has spent every hour since dissecting it frame by frame. But here’s the thing nobody wants to admit: for every question the Extended Look answered, it quietly dodged another one. Polygon rounded up the biggest loose ends still hanging after the Netflix premiere and the preview blitz that followed it, and honestly? The list is more interesting than half the reveals. These are the four questions that will keep the fan detectives busy between now and November 19.

What Happened: The Previews That Couldn’t Answer Everything

Between the Netflix Extended Look premiere, the New York Times interview that put hard numbers on the map size, and preview write-ups from IGN and beyond, this was the single biggest week of official GTA 6 information since the game was announced. We learned about the overhauled carjacking systems, the reworked Wanted system, and exactly how big Leonida really is.

But as Polygon points out, the deep-dive was a straight gameplay showcase — no developer narration, no structure interview, no roadmap. Which means the questions that require Rockstar to actually say something remain completely unanswered. Four of them stand out.

1. What’s Happening With Grand Theft Auto Online?

This is the big one. Back in June, when Rockstar revealed pricing and pre-order details, it described GTA 6 as a “single-player experience” — and said essentially nothing about the future of GTA Online, which has spent more than a decade quietly becoming one of the most profitable things in entertainment. Financial leaks earlier this year confirmed GTAO is still a massive money-maker for Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive, so nobody believes they’re just going to switch off the faucet.

That leaves two live possibilities, neither confirmed: a brand-new online game launching sometime after GTA 6, or the existing GTA Online expanding to absorb locations and events from the new game. There’s precedent for waiting, too — GTA Online originally launched about two weeks after GTA 5, and Red Dead Online arrived nearly a month after Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar also isn’t shy about leaning on its subscription: pre-ordering GTA 6 gets you a free month of GTA+, its GTA Online membership program. Read into that what you will.

2. Who Is Actually in the Cast?

We just watched nearly half an hour of Jason and Lucia’s adventures in vehicle theft and sharpshooting, and we still don’t know the names of the actors playing either of them. Rockstar has released zero information about the main or supporting cast — no credits list, no reveal event, nothing. We know the characters (Lucia Caminos, Jason Duval, Brian Heder, Cal Hampton, Raul Bautista, and Boobie Ike are your six principals), but the faces and voices behind them remain officially anonymous.

The few crumbs that surface get vacuumed up fast. Actor résumé listings that mention GTA 6 roles tend to be removed almost as soon as fan sites spot them, and Rockstar has never formally confirmed any performance. That’s a sharp contrast with the old Vice City era: 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was stacked with movie and TV star power — Ray Liotta, Tom Sizemore, Dennis Hopper, Danny Trejo, Debbie Harry, and Jenna Jameson — and 2004’s San Andreas followed with Ice-T, Samuel L. Jackson, James Woods, Charlie Murphy, and David Cross. (There’s a longstanding but completely unconfirmed rumor that Liotta was approached to cameo as Tommy Vercetti in San Andreas and passed over money. Treat it as fan lore, because that’s all it is.)

Polygon’s read — and it’s the right one — is that GTA 6 will follow the GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 model: an ensemble of highly accomplished but less famous voice actors who won’t demand a massive payout or accidentally blurt out their role on a press junket. If a household name were playing Jason, we’d have known five years ago.

3. How Far Does the Jason–Lucia Romance Actually Go?

The Extended Look made one thing clear: Jason and Lucia are shacking up. Early in the footage, Jason helps himself to a soda in an apartment decked out with flamingo-print wallpaper and pink fairy lights — almost certainly Lucia’s place. We also know the relationship system requires actual maintenance: good behavior on both sides, or things sour.

But will the game let the couple’s romance play out on screen, Hot Coffee-style? Nobody knows, and Rockstar isn’t saying. What we do have is Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson telling IGN that the whole thing is optional — “It feels great — if you are into it as a concept. Don’t bother with it if you aren’t. Up to you,” with the narrative structured so the pair “get through most things as partners in crime,” even if you keep things strictly platonic. And of course, this summer’s leaks already showed the game contains strip clubs and a nudist colony, with full frontal on display — so GTA 6 is not exactly shy. Whether the leads themselves get an intimate scene remains one of Rockstar’s favorite teases.

4. Can We Keep the Gator as a Pet?

The cover art’s grinning, toothy gator — affectionately nicknamed “Auto” by fans — is arguably the game’s breakout mascot, and yet the Extended Look delivered appallingly few Gator Moments. We got a brief, enticing fan-boat sequence, a cute pitbull in the latest footage, and that’s about it. Polygon speaks for all of us here: if we have to work out and maintain healthy sleep hygiene in this game, we must be allowed to keep a dangerous, truck-sized reptile as a pet. People do this in Florida all the time. It’s basically realism.

Nothing official suggests pet gators are in — file this one firmly under “fan wishlist” until Rockstar says otherwise. But between the fan boats, the swamps of the Leonida Keys, and a cover star begging for it, the demand writes itself.

What This Means for GTA 6

Every one of these open questions is a marketing beat Rockstar still has in the tank. The GTA Online answer is almost certainly being saved for after launch — that’s how they did it in 2013 and 2018, and the “single-player experience” phrasing was deliberate. The cast reveal is a card Rockstar historically plays at launch or in the credits, and the studio has proven unusually disciplined about this game’s secrets — even a leak campaign of historic proportions couldn’t drag the voice cast out.

For players, the takeaway is simple: the November 19, 2026 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S is now locked, the gameplay questions are largely answered, and what’s left — Online, cast, the full extent of the romance systems, and the gator situation — is exactly the stuff that fills the 83-day wait with speculation. Rockstar knows it, too.

Want to revisit the era when Vice City’s cast was a who’s-who of Hollywood? Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition bundles all three classics, and GTA V for PS5 is still the best way to tour Los Santos — and grind GTA Online — before Leonida opens its doors.
