GTA 6 Online Could Launch in Early 2027 — and One of Wall Street’s Biggest Banks Is Betting on It
Three weeks before the biggest game launch in entertainment history, the money people are nervous. Take-Two’s stock is down 21% this year and dipped under $200 this week — a long fall from its 52-week high of $265. You’d think Wall Street would be bracing for disappointment. Instead, Bank of America just told investors to pile in, and the core of its argument is a date: a new GTA Online for GTA 6 could launch in the first quarter of 2027.
That’s January–March 2027, a few months after the November 19 release — and it comes straight from a Bank of America memo to investors seen by Business Insider and reported by GameSpot. “We recommend being long $TTWO through the GTA 6 launch,” the bank wrote. The stock “remains cheap.” And the thing that supposedly makes it cheap? GTA Online 2.0.
What Happened: A Bank Put a Quarter on GTA Online 2.0
The note, published ahead of launch, reiterates Bank of America’s Buy rating on Take-Two with a $330 price target — trimmed from a previous $380, but still implying roughly 62% upside from where the stock was trading. The reasoning is blunt: investors are modeling GTA 6 as a giant one-time sales spike and then a fade. BofA thinks they’re missing the second act.
“Our LT EPS growth forecast is materially stronger than what we’ve heard, and a GTA Online launch in 1CQ27 should begin providing tangible evidence of that monetization upside,” the bank wrote, per Business Insider. Translation: when the new GTA Online switches on in the first calendar quarter of 2027, the revenue should be impossible to ignore — and “the market will need to revise its long-term EPS growth forecasts higher.” Proactive Investors adds the other half of the thesis: worries about an earnings decline in fiscal 2029, when full-game sales normalize after launch, overlook what GTA Online’s microtransactions will still be contributing by then.
GameSpot frames the same note more provocatively: GTA 6 Online “could be released in early 2027.” Same claim, same source — and the bank reportedly expects a PC edition of GTA 6 to arrive in that same window, stacking a second wave of full-price sales on top of the online-mode revenue.
The Fine Print: It’s a Forecast, Not an Announcement
Before anyone books a heist crew for January: Rockstar has announced nothing. Every frame of GTA 6 marketing so far is the single-player story of Jason and Lucia in Leonida. There is no GTA 6 Online reveal, no name, no date — the phrase “could be released” is doing Olympic-level heavy lifting in that headline. This is an analyst’s model, not a Rockstar roadmap. Banks build launch windows from industry patterns and supply-chain chatter, and they get platform timing wrong all the time.
The closest thing to official movement is oddly bureaucratic: Australia’s classification regime will require age verification for GTA 6 Online — a rule that presumes an online mode exists, without saying when it arrives. Everything else is inference. Treat the Q1 2027 window as informed speculation with a Bloomberg terminal attached.

Why Early 2027 Actually Fits Rockstar’s Playbook
Here’s why the bank’s window doesn’t sound crazy: Rockstar has never shipped online multiplayer on day one. GTA 5 launched September 17, 2013, and GTA Online followed on October 1 — a two-week gap that turned into a decade-long money printer via Shark Cards. Red Dead Redemption 2 launched October 26, 2018, and the Red Dead Online beta rolled out about a month later. If GTA 6 simply repeated the two-week pattern, we’d be looking at early December 2026. The fact that serious money is modeling Q1 2027 instead suggests analysts expect a bigger, more ambitious rebuild — or at least a longer runway.
It also matches what other influential people have been saying. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said in a Bloomberg interview in September that he expects GTA 6’s multiplayer to land in 2027 — his platform has a very direct interest in knowing when the biggest streaming game of all time gets its social layer. Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick, meanwhile, has spent months telegraphing that PC is “becoming more and more important” to the company’s release cadence — which lines up neatly with BofA bundling a PC edition into that same early-2027 window.
And there’s a trophy-case angle too: if online arrives in early 2027, GTA 6’s second act lands right in time for the 2027 awards and “ongoing game” conversation — a scenario we sketched in our piece on GTA 6’s Game Awards eligibility tightrope.

What This Means for GTA 6
1. November 19 is single-player night. The launch — confirmed, locked, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S — is Jason, Lucia, and the state of Leonida. Reviews are now expected before launch, as we covered in our review-embargo watch, and preloads open November 12 for a chunky 210 GB download on PS5. Nothing about a bank memo moves that date.
2. The real money is the long tail. GTA Online has been printing cash since 2013 on microtransactions alone — it’s why a nine-year-old game kept topping engagement charts. BofA’s entire $330 case is that GTA 6’s online mode repeats that curve at a bigger scale, and starts proving it with hard numbers in Q1 2027. The launch weekend will break sales records; the launch year is what the stock is supposedly mispricing.
3. PC players got their first real window. “First quarter of 2027” is now the second independent signal pointing there, alongside Zelnick’s PC-cadence commentary. That’s still analyst expectation, not a port announcement — but it’s a much narrower hint than anything official so far.
4. For players, the plan doesn’t change. GTA 6 releases November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you want in on day one, you can pre-order GTA 6 for PS5 on Amazon or grab the Xbox Series X|S version here — our pre-order guide breaks down the editions, and the wait goes faster with our things-to-do-while-waiting list.
The Bottom Line
A stock down 21% on the year, a $330 price target with 62% upside, and a memo that treats GTA 6 Online in early 2027 as the moment the math turns — that’s the shape of Wall Street’s GTA 6 story right now. Rockstar itself remains silent on multiplayer, and until it isn’t, Q1 2027 is a well-dressed rumor with a buy rating attached. But between the Twitch CEO, the bank, and Rockstar’s own two-weeks-to-a-month historical pattern, every signal now points the same direction: the single-player comes first, the empire comes after. November 19 gets you Leonida. Early 2027, maybe, gets you everyone else in it.
