Virgin Media Will Pay You $111 an Hour to Play GTA 6 — but Read the Fine Print First
Every so often a job listing appears that sounds like it was written by a 14-year-old with a business degree: get paid to play GTA 6. As GameSpot reports, that job is real. Broadband giant Virgin Media has launched a promotion that will pay one lucky winner to play GTA 6 — at a rate most actual game testers would envy. The catches, and there are several, are all in the fine print.
The essentials: Virgin Media Ireland will pay one winner €100 an hour (about $111) to play GTA 6 for eight hours — €800, or roughly $891 total — plus a free copy of the $99.99 Ultimate Edition. To enter, you explain in 100–200 words why you deserve the gig. Applications close November 15, and the winner’s only obligation is to post an “honest” review on Instagram or TikTok. Here is the full breakdown of the dream job — and why GameSpot called it a long shot.
What Happened: The Dream Gig, in Writing
The mechanics, per GameSpot and Variety: applicants explain in 100 to 200 words on the contest site why they deserve to get paid to play GTA 6. Applications close November 15, the winner is picked at random and contacted within seven days, and Virgin Media buys the game — the Ultimate Edition, no less. The eight paid hours can be split across launch week however the winner likes. As the company puts it: “We will buy the game, and let you split those eight hours across the week however suits.”
The winner’s job is to post a review of the game on Instagram or TikTok, tag Virgin Media, and disclose that it’s a paid ad. The company’s pitch to applicants leans all the way into the setting, encouraging the winner to “explore the sun-soaked state of Leonida, cruise the neon-lit streets of Vice City, and answer the question on everyone’s mind. Does ‘GTA 6’ live up to the hype?”
A Virgin Media spokesperson told Variety: “‘GTA 6’ is the biggest game launch in years, maybe ever. It’s the kind of launch that friends plan their whole week around, and we wanted to be part of that excitement.” That last sentence is doing a lot of honest work — because that is precisely what this is: a broadband company buying a ticket to the biggest cultural moment of 2026.

The Catches: Why It’s a Long Shot
1. It’s Ireland-only. The promotion is run by Virgin Media Ireland and is open only to residents of the Republic of Ireland. If you’re reading this from anywhere else on the planet, your 200-word essay is the workplace equivalent of a letter to Santa.
2. One winner, picked at random. That 100–200 word application? Polish it or phone it in — the winner is drawn at random. It’s a sweepstakes wearing a job interview’s clothes. To be fair, that’s also what makes it a genuine contest rather than a nepotism pipeline.
3. You need your own console. Virgin Media supplies the game, not the hardware. No PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, no gig. The winner will be playing the biggest game of all time on a machine they already own — which, given the game’s newly revealed 210 GB install size, also means owning 210 GB of spare storage.
4. It’s an ad, and everyone has to say so. The review must be tagged and disclosed as paid content. Variety notes the company is hoping for a publicity boost from the stunt — and Virgin Media, a division of John Malone’s telecom giant Liberty Global, is spending what is, by marketing-budget standards, a rounding error (€800 plus one copy of the game) to be part of the GTA 6 conversation. You’re reading about it right now. The math works.

GTA 6 Hype Has Its Own Economy Now
The Virgin Media stunt is the latest entry in a genre that now has its own rules. A US Army infantry division offered active-duty soldiers a four-day pass to play the game as a reenlistment incentive, per Variety. A UK gym chain decided your thumbs aren’t ready for GTA 6 and built a workout to fix that. A Florida burger chain got turned into a real-life Burger Shot for launch week. IGN and Best Buy are giving away an entire GTA 6 launch setup. Even governments are in on it — Australia’s workplace agency posted an official guide to taking launch-day leave.
The numbers explain why everyone wants a piece: GTA 6’s first trailer has passed 300 million views on YouTube, and the Netflix extended look drew more than 31 million views in its first five days. When that many eyeballs point at one product on November 19, anything attached to it inherits the glare. “Get paid to play” is simply the broadband-provider version of the same arithmetic.
What This Means for GTA 6
1. “Paid to play” is a new tier of launch stunt. Giveaways give you the game; this one pays a wage on top. Expect copycats wherever GTA 6 launches — the format is cheap, the headlines are guaranteed, and the “honest review” framing buys a credibility that a straight banner ad can’t.
2. The winner becomes launch week’s first sponsored player review. An eight-hour, paid, tagged, disclosed review dropping during launch week is essentially user-generated launch marketing with extra steps. Rockstar doesn’t need the help — but the winner’s clip will be competing for attention with every other November 19 reaction video, and starting with a built-in audience.
3. If you’re not in Ireland, build your own eight hours. The rest of us have to self-fund launch week, but the logistics are all solvable. The 210 GB install and November 12 preload are known quantities, the launch-day PTO wave is real and growing, and if the wait is still unbearable, our things to do while waiting for GTA 6 list has you covered. And if you want the exact edition the winner gets, we’ve already tracked the Ultimate Edition dipping to an effective $85 this week.
4. The clock is the real enemy. Whether or not you win a paid session, the game itself doesn’t wait: GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. You can still pre-order GTA 6 for PS5 on Amazon or grab the Xbox Series X|S version here — which, at Virgin Media’s billing rate, is over $1,700 of playtime you’re getting for the price of the ticket.
The Bottom Line
Somewhere in Ireland, one person is about to be paid $111 an hour to do what millions of us would do for free. The odds are terrible, the essay is decorative, and the whole thing is an ad — but it’s also the most honest marketing format GTA 6 has inspired yet: a company paying a real player to say what they actually think, on the record, in launch week. November 19 is 23 days out. The rest of us can only envy the winner’s timesheet.
